Being an Employer
Payroll Service - We provide a low cost payroll service to help you and your nanny be assured that pay, tax and relevant legislation are being dealt with efficiently. See Parent's Information Pack.
Tax and National Insurance - If a nanny is paid more than £83.00 per week you are required by law to register with the Inland Revenue as an employer and if you pay more than £97.00 per week you must operate a PAYE (Pay As You Earn) scheme. You must pay Income Tax and National Insurance Contributions on behalf of your nanny to the Inland Revenue based on her gross salary. If a part-time nanny already works for another family the calculation of pay becomes more complicated regarding the net/gross amount. Unless you are using our recommended payroll service, you will need to contact your local Tax Office in respect of your obligations in relation to your nanny's tax and National Insurance Contributions. In addition you will need to provide proper payslips, P60 end of year summaries, a P45 when the nanny leaves your employment and if the circumstances arise payment of Statutory sick pay and Statutory Maternity Pay.
The government have introduced tax benefits for nanny employers similar to the nursery voucher scheme contact www.ofsted.gov.uk for more information or helpline tel: 0845 6404040.
